About Chiang Mai
CHIANG MAI
Chiang Mai, Thailand’s second city is located 700km north of the capital Bangkok. Whilst surrounded by mountains and jungle, the municipal area is on a large flat plain in the Ping River basin, some 30km wide. The main city is located on the western side next to Doi Sutpeh Mountain, with suburbs spreading out to the North, East and South.
Chiang Mai is a popular tourist and retirement destination due to its excellent climate, natural beauty, culture, history and laid back lifestyle. In recent years, Chiang Mai has seen explosive growth in real estate with the development of many housing and condominium projects, as well as commercial properties such as shopping malls. Yet, away from the main city centre there is still plenty of land available for construction at reasonable prices.
With Chiang Mai’s international airport, only a ten-minute drive from the city centre and many daily flights to Bangkok, as well as regional Asian Hubs such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur getting to the city could not be easier. It also has a major highway and railway line linking it directly to Bangkok and elsewhere in Thailand.
The city boasts some excellent private hospitals offering western standards at modest costs. There are also some good international schools as well as several universities in Chiang Mai. An abundance of shopping malls and other retail outlets means everything is available here. For entertainment there are many hundreds of restaurants and bars, as well as a thriving ex-pat social scene.
